What It Is All About!
The Ukulele weekend was started due to the 2020 January bush fires. The whole community was evacuated for several weeks. The businesses in the are lost their whole summer trade. This is something that they rely on heavily to get them through winter.
The idea was to support the bush fire recovery program for the area. Bush fire recovery grants were offered by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the local Snowy Valleys Council. The group went for and have been given two grants to kick off a weekend.
The aim is to support local businesses and provide the community and people from other towns, with some fun and entertainment.
There are two prices for participants. The first is for people who are coming to play their ukulele’s. The second is for their partners that may wish to come along to the weekend but not participate in the lessons.
On arrival you will receive a bag with your timetable and other information. Check in will begin at 3pm at the Khancoban Caravan Park.
The weekend begins on the Friday night with a sing-a-long at the caravan park under the stars. This includes a wonderful dinner. You will need to bring your own chair. You can also bring your own drinks or buy them off us. If you have the Blue mountains, The Ukulele Club Books, bring them along too. A list of songs will go up on the website prior to the weekend. Also some music may be placed on the website prior to the weekend so people can download them and have a go before hand.
Saturday is filled with lessons, morning tea and lunch provided at the local school. Non-players might like to join us for morning tea and grab a packed lunch to go exploring the area or join us for lunch as well. All Lessons will be provided by qualified teachers on the Saturday.
Saturday afternoon you can rest and revitalize before a fun packed evening at the Khancoban Alpine Inn with a wonderful meal. You will first have a chance to show off your skills that you learnt on the day. Then any group who wishes to perform will have a chance to entertain. Karaoke will also be available for those that just wish to get up and have a sing.
Sunday will be very special with a scrumptious brunch at the Khancoban Alpine Inn with the teachers (Presenters) entertaining us until you are ready to go meandering off home.
So instead of grab and eski and come and visit us, bring a ukulele and come along for a fun and relaxing weekend.
